I feel incredibly blessed to hold sacred space for so many beautiful beings in such an extra ordinary place, on the longest day of the year, with the sun beaming down on us, smiling.
A few years ago I made a decision to hold most of my events out in nature – no longer confined by walls which become a barrier to mother earth, nature and the elements. The healing I receive by connecting to the earth, the rivers, the streams, the sky, feeling the wind on my face, the sun shining on my skin, hearing the bird call takes me to the present moment rather than the past or the future. It takes me away from modern life, social media, deadlines, traffic, politics etc and brings me to to the peaceful place of serenity. Nature is meditation – it is peace and calm – it is one of the main joys of my life which helps brings clarity to my life and my world.
This leads me on to the Summer Solstice 2022 at Tinkers Clough, Bollington, Cheshire – Bollington is a very special place where I grew up and I especially wanted to honour this land. Summer Solstice Eve people travelled from as far away as Liverpool and Nottinghamshire, Manchester and Buxton to come to this event because like me, they wanted something different in their life. Are people getting tired of just carrying on in the same old ways or are we as a society wanting and needing more?
We had a blast – we drummed to honour the Sun the way our ancestors did. We danced a sundance the way our ancestors did but with the beats and tunes of Propellerheads and Shirley Bassey banging out History Repeating rather than just drums and rattles. History Repeating itself was placed in the track list intentionally to remind us that if we don’t learn our lessons the first time they will get harder and repeated.
We had fun. We laughed and danced, tree hugged and we hadn’t had a drop of booze. We played Pagan Pass the Parcel to the beat of the drum. We meditated and gave thanks to the Sun for shining down on us every day and acknowledging without her we would have nothing.
I spoke of Hafiz who said “the Sun never says to the Earth you owe me – With a love like that you would light up the whole sky” We take it for granted the sun will rise every morning. We never doubt that. Yet we get caught up in the little things and loose faith but if the sun can rise every morning whilst spinning amongst the planets and stars in the universe – then the little things we worry about just need the same trust and faith.
I concluded the evening with the intention to take our peace and calm out into the world and shine it brightly on everyone especially sending it to those in war torn countries at this time and in particular Ukraine and Russia.
I feel incredibly blessed to have experienced this magical event with magical people in a magical place. I feel incredibly blessed to do what I do and be who I am today. I feel incredibly blessed for being alive and for having the opportunity to be on Mother Earth. Loads of Love Greta (Break the norm – live free).
